In Coláiste Bride we are very proud of our Transition Year programme.

 

Aim of the TYP

  1. Develop New Skills
  2. Working as a Team & using own ideas
  3. Maturing for adult & working life
  4. Learning how to interact with new people
  5. New & varied subjects
  6. Increased self esteem
  7. Project work & development
  8. Develop new & long term friendships

The students study the following Core and Optional Subjects:

Core subjects

  1. Maths
  2. Gaeilge
  3. Religion
  4. Health Education
  5. IT
  6. Science/Home Ec/Art

Modular Subjects

  1. English : Drama; Novel; Creative Writing
  2. Language: Conversational French, Written French, Italian, Spanish
  3. Lifestyle: Music, Media, Driving
  4. Psychology: Human development, Learning.
  5. Humanities: Geography, History, Politics
  6. Tasters: Science, Home Ec, Art.
  7. Other Modules: Sign Language, Mini Company, Organic Gardening.
  8. Work Prep: Careers & skills
  9. Work Experience: 2x2 week

As part of the total development of each student we have a number of Trips and Events during the year

YSI: Young Social Innovator.

Mini Company: Create,Market & sell own creations.

Gaisce: The Presidents Award. TY students start with their Bronze Medal. Involves 3 main areas: New skill, Community, Physical challenge.

School Musical: 2008 saw the return of the school musical.Last year it was Grease and it was a total success for all involved.
