     Title: Benemerenti Medal Presentation

On the 1st of February we hosted a special evening Mass in celebration and thanksgiving of voluntary service to the community.  This special event witnessed the commissioning of 6 students from 5th year to serve as Eucharistic Ministers in Coláiste Bríde and their parishes.  It also celebrated the huge education legacy of the Presentation Sisters here in Clondalkin.

We also, in association with Fr Damian, organised the awarding of the Benemerenti Medal to our former Chairperson of the Board of Management, Mr Eddie O’Connor.  The Benemerenti Medal is a Pontifical Decoration begun by Pope Gregory XVI in 1852 and conferred in recognition of distinguished service in military or civil affairs.   The Benemerenti Medal was presented to Mr Eddie O’Connor in recognition of his many years of voluntary service to our community in various capacities including:

¨ 27 years as Chairperson of the Board of Management of Coláiste Bríde and prior to that a member of the BoM of Scoil Aine

¨ over 50 years service to our Parish Finance Committee and Accountant to our Parish

¨ served on the committee for the International Eucharistic Congress 2012 and is currently serving on the         board for the World Meeting of Families 2018.

¨ He is also currently a member of the BoM in Caritas College in Ballyfermot

We invited all students who already display leadership and commitment through service in our school e.g. member of the choir, Learning Leaders, Prefects, member of the Student Council, Class Captain and Vice Captain—to attend and join in our celebrations both in the Church and school.  We take this opportunity to thank Monsignor Dan O’Connor for joining with us and his lovely words about the influence and legacy of the Presentation Sisters as he presented the Benemerenti Medal.
