Attendance

Attendance

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We need your help, please!

At Coláiste Bríde, we firmly believe in the importance of regular attendance throughout the academic year for the success and fulfilment of every child. This year we are placing a high priority on school attendance. We would like to work with you to ensure the best outcomes for each student in our school.

To work together it is essential that you download the TYRO app to your phone and turn your notifications ON. This will allow you to track and monitor your child’s attendance daily. It will also allow you to monitor your child’s punctuality each morning. This year we will launch a new system that will notify each parent/guardian if their child is late to school via a mail to your TYRO app. We believe that this intervention will prevent bad habits forming and allow us to provide early intervention and support where required.

What YOU must do:

  • Encourage and Support: your child to come to school on time every day. Our motto for attendance is – Be Here, Stay Here, All Day, Every Day. We would greatly appreciate your unwavering support with this.
  • Appointments: Inform the school via the tutor/year head in advance about any essential appointments. Please do everything possible to ensure all appointments are outside of school hours. See page 38 of the journal for correct procedures to be followed when your child has an appointment.
  • Attendance uncertainty:If you’re unsure if your child is well enough to attend school, send them to school as they often feel better upon arrival. If your child is sick/contagious please keep them at home until they are well enough to return.
  • Transport back up plan: Have a backup plan in case your child misses transport; consider involving a family member, neighbour or friend. We have bike racks for those that cycle, and we are an Active School so we promote students walking to school where possible.
  • Communication about difficulties: If you and your child are facing challenges with school attendance, call us, emails us, reach out.
  • Check in on the TYRO App:This will give you a clear insight into your childs attendance and punctuality throughout each school day.

What WE will do:

  • Free Breakfast:We provide free breakfast for all students between 8.00am-8.30am. We serve everything from fresh fruit smoothies, granola, scrambled egg on toast, to cereal. Start the day the right way, be on time and fuel up.
  • Meet & Greet: We will welcome all students through our doors each day.
  • Daily attendance: Monitor your child's attendance and punctuality daily.
  • Lateness Message:Send personal mails via TYRO to parents/guardians to notify you when your child has arrived late to school.
  • Communication: Call home to discuss your child's attendance with you when needed.
  • Attendance meetings: Invite you to attend our school for attendance meetings if we have concerns.
  • Welfare home visit: If we cannot establish a reason for absence, we may conduct a welfare home visit to ensure the wellbeing of your child.
  • Positive Attendance Promotion: we will run a number of competitions and awareness campaigns this year to place a focus on the importance of attendance.
  • Parent/Guardian Attendance Workshops: We truly understand that attendance is a difficult barrier for some families and students. To help support you in this, we will run workshops to support parents and guardians dealing with this stressful situation.

Remember, open communication is key, and we are here to support you and your child in achieving consistent and positive attendance. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s tutor or Year Head in the first instance. Ms.Beere is our Attendance Co-Ordinator who will champion attendance in our school and work with Ms.Ronan our Deputy Principal to support students who are struggling.

Pic1.pngTo start the school year on a positive note, we are launching our attendance campaign. It takes 21 days to form a habit and 90 days to change a lifestyle. This year there are exactly 21 school days in September. We are aiming for all students to attend these 21 school days in September. This will form the habit. There are prizes galore to get this campaign underway.

This will then lead into our 90-day challenge. All students can sign up to the challenge of attending 90 school days from September 1st. Research has shown 90 days of being consistent at anything can change a lifestyle. We believe this 90-day campaign can truly change a student’s life. All students who succeed in attending the 90 days will be entered into a draw and there will be 6 x €100 vouchers. One voucher per year group. To be in with a chance to win, all you need to do is come to school!!!

Start the conversation at home today as a family. Start afresh. Believe that improvements can be made and set the expectations high.

Why not follow us on Twitter to learn more @colaistebride or check out our website www.colaistebride.com. To begin this habit, to start anew the first thing you must do is download the TYRO App today. If you have any issues with the TYRO app please email mkelly@colaistebride.com

We are super excited to welcome all of students back through the doors of Coláiste Bríde. Click HERE to see our plan in full and read more about our 90 day campaign.
