For the past two years, the Green School Committee have been working extremely hard to achieve our ninth green flag. Even though we faced significant challenges due to school closures in both 2020 and 2021, we have achieved a huge amount! Some of our work included:
- Introduced the theme of Global Citizenship – Travel into the majority of our subjects.
- Incorporated numeracy and literacy activities into our teaching and learning while educating students on this theme.
- Attended Fridays for Future climate strikes.
- Completed travel surveys in 2020 and then again in 2021 and compared the data.
- Showed documentaries to students on the impacts of travel on the environment.
- Held a virtual Learning Week, where students shared presentations on the impacts of travel.
- Ran Green Schools competitions and quizzes.
- Linked in with the Active Schools Flag and promoted walking to school.
- Held poster competitions throughout the school year.
- Continued to maintain the work completed for previous flags. Some of this work included ensuring that correct recycling facilities were used, removed plastic water bottles from the vending machines and replaced them with cardboard water bottles.
- Promoted our work and shared environmental information through our Twitter page: @CBGoesGreen
- Participated in our first virtual assessment visit for the ninth Green Flag, which we passed with flying colours!
Without the hard work and dedication of our amazing committee, none of the above would have been possible! If you are a student who is passionate about the environment, and wants to make a change, join our Green School Committee!
